Adolescence is the most important period of our lives and this was certainly the case for 13 year-old Ramon. In addition to being a time of discovery, he was confused and apprehensive in a time when everything was in doubt- the future, school, studies, sex and particularly communication with the older generation. He had moved from town to town all his life and was shy and awkward. The odds were against him from the start and life was never going to be easy. He thought that life was about winning and losing but soon learned that it is all about survival. You’re My Hero also tells the story of Spain at the beginning of the transition- the period that started when Franco was about to die. This was a time of social upheaval and unrest, marked by change, illusion and struggle which in some way shaped the personality of those who lived their youth at this time.
